Raising Awareness of Food Allergies Each May
The prevalence of food allergies in the U.S. is roughly doubling every ten years. Each year in May, we commemorate Food Allergy Awareness Week to shine a spotlight on this serious public health crisis. Created in 1998 by the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, now FARE, Food Allergy Awareness Week celebrates the more than 32 million Americans managing food allergy. Through increased awareness, we can promote respect, safety and inclusion and ensure that communities have the tools they need to spread the word about food allergies.
The 23rd annual Food Allergy Awareness Week will be held May 10-16, 2020.
Food Allergy Awareness Week (FAAW), May 10-16, is focused on raising awareness of food allergies. This year is no different. In fact, it’s even more important given the extra challenges our families are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic. City of Blue Ridge Mayor, Donna Whitener, signed a proclamation for FAAW week for Blue Ridge, Georgia. Northeast Georgia Food Allergy Support Group is very grateful to Mayor Whitener for recognizing FAAW and keeping all residents safe during COVID-19, as well as encouraging city residents to increase their awareness of causes and symptoms of food allergies and anaphylaxis.
